The Truth I Lied To You

A Short Poem

“Now I really don’t know what to say.

I lied,

I lied right to your face.

– –

I told you that night that it was something other,

But really, it was something confined,

It was covered.

I could barely keep myself together after that.

I couldn’t look at you,

The tears wouldn’t hold back.

– –

Now the doubts have crept in,

As they always seemingly do,

Was it really the right thing to do?

I know in my heart, out of my love for you,

I hoped I’d be the one who’d protect you.

But my problems aren’t yours, you don’t need that stress.

I was supposed to be your rock, and I was something less.

We committed our future, to live by what’s true,

But there was conscious deliberation, and I chose to lie to you.”
